West Kelowna Fire crews quickly snuffed out a grass fire near Darroch Field Friday afternoon (June 14).

Firefighters were called to the area on East Boundary Road just after 2 p.m.

“First arriving crews were faced with a quickly growing fire, being driven uphill by strong winds,” said Fire Chief Jason Brolund.

Brolund said fast work by firefighters caught the fire and prevented it from growing further in difficult terrain.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but witnesses report seeing individuals running from the area at the time smoke was seen.

West Kelowna RCMP and bylaw officers are investigating.
