Two people were killed in a two-vehicle collision that occurred east of Chase on Highway 1.

Around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, May 27, Chase RCMP responded to a report of the collision which occurred on the Trans-Canada near Sorrento.

RCMP spokesperson Corp. James Grandy said responding officers learned an eastbound semi-trailer failed to make a right turn, resulting in the vehicle flipping on its side in the oncoming lane. Unable to stop in time, an oncoming westbound semi collided with the overturned vehicle.

“Sadly, both the driver and passenger of the flipped semi-truck passed away at the scene,” said Grandy in a May 28 media release. “The driver of the oncoming truck suffered minor injuries.”

Grandy asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident and/or have related dashcam footage to contact the Chase RCMP detachment at 250-679-3221.
