2-hour closure of Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke, Golden
Published 1:52 pm Tuesday, March 10, 2026
A stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden will close for avalanche control Tuesday afternoon, slated to reopen after two-and-a-half hours.
About 10 kilometres of Highway 1 around the West Gate of Rogers Pass will shut to traffic at 2 p.m. Pacific time March 10, and stay closed until 4:30 p.m. as provincial and federal crews work to displace snowpack threatening to block the corridor.
According to DriveBC, no detour will be available during this time and anywhere on the highway between the Illecillewaet brake check and Hemlock Grove Boardwalk in Glacier National Park will be off limits.

The rest of the Revelstoke-Golden route on either side of the closure will remain accessible to motorists, including the Rogers Pass summit to the east and Albert Canyon area to the west.
Avalanche risk in Glacier remains considerable for alpine and treeline areas this week, while Parks Canada has rated danger at lower elevations to be moderate. All winter restricted areas in Rogers Pass are open to backcountry users Tuesday.
