The alert, issued at 5:25 a.m. on Sunday morning, warns that gusts of wind up to 90 km/h should be expected throughout the day.
“A vigorous cold front descending on the south coast will bring strong gusty winds to the eastern Fraser Valley including Hope today,” Environment Canada said in its warning.
Damage from the wind gusts are possible, according to Environment Canada, and pedestrians are warned there is a risk of injury due to flying or falling debris.
The winds are expected to calm slightly in the afternoon, but will pick up again in the evening.
The wind warning extends as far north as Tipella and extends south as far as the U.S. border, near Chilliwack.
Elsewhere, the Southern Interior region of B.C. is also on alert for possible strong winds.
Spanning from Ashcroft to Trail, as well as an area around Kimberly strong winds are to be expected.
“A cold front associated with a strong low pressure system passing through northern British Columbia today will sweep across the Southern Interior,” the alert said.
“High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Secure loose objects. Prepare for possible disruptions of transportation, services and utilities.”
The winds are expected to last until the evening.
